The Planning Group for the International Day of People with

Disabilities is seeking nominations of *unsung heroes* and is

inviting poets and artists to take part in the event by submitting their

work.

Organizations are asked to nominate people with disabilities as

*unsung heroes.* The nominees previously should not have received

recognition for their contributions to the disability community or to a

specific cause within the disability movement.

Each year, people are invited to submit their poems about any aspect of

disability to the Invitation to Poetry segment. A new initiative this

year is the Invitation to Art, an opportunity for artists with

disabilities to display and promote their work at the event.

The nomination deadline for unsung heroes and the submission of art and

poetry is October 30, 2009.

The City of Toronto, together with community, institutional and private

sector partners will celebrate International Day of People with

Disabilities on December 3 at Variety Village, 3701 Danforth Ave., from

9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
